We are Rudy and Debra Galvan, and we live in the countryside just west of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex with our two daughters, Gabi and Stella. We've been married for over 20 years, and dogs have been part of our story from the very beginning.
Our Family
Rudy grew up in South Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 2001 with a degree in Criminology. He has spent his entire career with the Texas Department of Public Safety and is currently stationed in Decatur. He grew up in a dog-loving home that was especially fond of beagles. Though he didn't have one as a child, he had always hoped that one day he'd have a Golden Retriever.
Debra grew up in the DFW area and worked in banking and real estate before choosing to stay home to raise their children. She grew up with a deep love for dogs as well, having a poodle named Nudge who was a cherished part of her childhood.
When we first married, we brought home our first family dogs: Radar, a Pomeranian, and later Chloe, a dachshund. Both lived long, full lives and were deeply loved members of our family. As our children grew, we knew we wanted to share our home with a larger, more active breed that fit the kind of family life we were building.
How Goldens Changed Everything
That's when our journey with Golden Retrievers truly began. Our first Golden, Alula, joined us in 2021. She was everything we had hoped for in temperament: gentle, joyful, and devoted, and she instantly became part of our family.
As she matured, we began to better understand the difference between a wonderful family companion and a dog that truly reflects the Golden Retriever standard in structure and type. While we loved Alula deeply, we realized she did not fully represent the look and balance we had come to appreciate in well-bred Golden Retrievers. That realization became an important turning point for us.
Alula had just one litter. We chose to breed her to a Grand Champion in an effort to improve structure in the next generation. That litter of 13 puppies taught us an incredible amount and gave us our first real experience in breeding and evaluation. It also clarified our direction even further. Alula is now retired and remains a very loved part of our home, where she will always stay.
Why We Breed
After Alula, Spark came to us from Rebecca Heimann of Contigo Kennels. She represents the kind of Golden Retriever we strive to produce: sound, typey, and true to the breed standard. Spark is our first AKC Champion and the foundation of our program. She has brought clarity and direction to our goals as breeders and continues to guide the path we are building.
We are still learning, still growing, and deeply committed to doing things the right way, focusing on health, temperament, and structure while always keeping the Golden Retriever's purpose at the center of our program.
